Recording gameplay feeds from DosBox

Woot?! A gameplay video, of an abandonware title? How's that possible! Well, not revealing any secrets, but it is actually possible. We've just tested the beloved title "Goblins 3: Quest" by tweaking DosBox and using Fraps, it was actually possible to achieve. Please bear in mind though, this is only considered a test, and as you may notice, sound is glitchy and the performance is rather poor when the mousepointer is moved alot (at least in this title, we haven't tested other games yet).

So, as far as this goes it is actually possible to record video from DosBox, but the quality is not satisfying when there's alot happening on screen. The sound is too somewhat choppy at times, and in our test it had to be normalized to about 50% to prevent blowing viewer's ears right off the spot. However, the performance and soundpicture is acceptable when there's not alot happening on screen, and it's not far from truth when playing the title for yourself.

Anyhow, here's some small details about the video:

Please note: The video has been compressed to prevent a ridicolously large download. The initial footage is better, the sound is approximately representative compared to the original source. Please bear this in mind when you watch. Thanks.

Length: 6:23m

Filesize: 10.4MB approximately (Use winrar to unpack it!)

Format: WMV (Windows Media Video)
