A deadly meteorite has been hurled towards the unsuspecting planet of Expel, as The Gods are out to destroy the universe. Play as either Claude or Rena in each with their own unique backstories that cross paths. Two destinies take up an adventure of their lifetimes, an uncertain journey with tons of mystery, battles and plots to uncover. Their ultimate goal is to get to bottom of all this and save the universe from the Gods.

Similarly to the previous game, Star Ocean, the game features real-time battles with various control schemes to further adjust how much control the player wants over the battlefield. Through your journey you'll meet up with other characters that you can choose whether to join you or not. Each character has SP, or skill points, which are put skills you choose. There are also talents, or special abilities. For instance dexterity governs things like pickpocketing. Talents are set randomly when you start a new game, making it possible to re-roll to get the ones you want.

The game features over 80 possible endings, depending on how you've nurtured your relationships with the characters you met and those that join you. Star Ocean: The Second Story is a well-known cult classic among JRPG fans, spanning massive worlds and a solid action roleplaying experience.
